MORF
2020
Exploring the magical in the everyday, MORF sees two dancers use ordinary suit jackets to create familiar animals – including a jellyfish, an elephant, a bird, and a worm – as young audiences travel with them to a ‘fabric fantasy’ world of clouds, mountains, volcanos and castles. Nothing stays the same for long as what is there in one second is gone and transformed into something new the next.
ARTIST PROFILES
David Ogle
David’s professional career as Dance Artist and Choreographer has revolved around creating work for young audiences.
After collaborating with Anna Meredith Handsfree which was choreographed on the National Youth Orchestra for the BBC Proms and has subsequently been performed by different youth orchestras across the globe, David then choreographed the BBC Ten Pieces commission Connect It which was an initiative for primary schools across the UK. David has subsequently worked with the BBC creating workshops for teachers around empowering creative responses to classical music.
David was a founding member of E.dance which was set up to create accessible and professional contemporary dance works for schools and theatres – collaborating and performing in many productions. During his time with E.dance, David co-choreographed Fair.e.tale which was loosely based on different stories from the Brothers Grimm. He also worked with Second Hand Dance and toured internationally with their production of Grass.
David choreographed and performed in Wonderful Beast’s production of Orla and The Sun – a multi-sensory opera designed for babies, pre-school children and their parents. The piece intended to blur the boundary between play and action. Following its success, David choreographed another production entitled Orla and the Moon. This work led to David assisting and creating movement for other companies working in this field including Spitalfields Musical Rumpus and Suffolk Arts Link.
David has also choreographed and performed with award winning orchestra Sinfonia Viva, creating interactive performances which integrate orchestral music and new works to entertain the whole family. Works include Where’s That Monster?, Wait?…What?! and I Have to Leave My House amongst other projects.
David is excited to be choreographing on Maiden Voyage Dance especially considering David has performed with MVD in multiple productions for Belfast Children’s Festival.
Maiden Voyage Dance is principally funded by Arts Council of Northern Ireland and funded by Belfast City Council. MORF is supported by Ulster Presents at Ulster University.
