Spring sessions of Belfast Movement Group

We are looking for adult women of all ages and abilities to join our Belfast Movement Group resuming in April 2024.

Building on the success of the Belfast Movement Choir the new group is a celebration of the joy of creativity and moving together. It is accessible for women with all levels of dance experience and for those with none. We do not teach a particular style of dance, but rather support participants to express their own creativity with movement.

The sessions take place at The Crescent Arts Centre on Monday mornings 10.30 – 12.00 from Monday 8th April to Monday 27th May inclusive.

The 8 week block costs £75 or £60 concession for those of 60 years of age and over, students, disabled people and those in receipt of benefits. BOOK HERE

The movement is not high impact and the facilitator will only deliver what is appropriate for each group and is sensitive to each individual within that group. We honour all bodies and each participant is supported to work at their own pace while they build their confidence and comfort level.

There are a number of benefits in taking part in dance at any age, including building mental and physical agility, increasing movement memory and alertness, working in collaboration and developing your creativity, self-confidence and self-esteem.

The group is led by Sandy Cuthbert. Sandy is a freelance professional dancer, choreographer and teacher. She worked with “Diversions” the National Dance Company of Wales for five years performing extensively throughout Britain, Europe and the Far East. Sandy taught at BIFHE/Belfast Metropolitan College as a Lecturer and a Senior Lecturer for twenty years and formed and directed her own dance company “In Transit” during the late 1990’s. Following the closure of the performing arts programmes at BelfastMet in 2016, Sandy worked with Maiden Voyage as Company Manager from 2016-2021. Sandy has an MA in Dance and Somatics and is registered with ISMETA. Sandy facilitates somatic movement workshops across the UK and is the lead artist for both the Belfast Movement Choir and Sesonal Somatics programmes established by Maiden Voyage Dance.
