OPEN CALL - PILOT PROGRAMME PARTICIPATORY DANCE PRACTICE TRAINING

The Maiden Voyage Dance | Luail partnership are pleased to announce this pilot professional development opportunity for two NI based and two ROI based early career dance artists who want to build a sustainable participatory dance practice. 

Dance artists working in this part of the dance industry have not necessarily had access to specialised education at undergraduate level. This pilot programme is for early career dance artists who have already gained a firm foundation in their chosen art form but need to develop additional skills to deliver participatory arts activities safely and successfully. 

Led by Dylan Quinn, participants will work towards an Introduction to Dance Teaching in Community Contexts Level 4 Diploma accreditation from People Dancing UK. Course content will include Safer Dance Practice, Teaching Skills as well as access to one of their population specific courses Older People, Parkinson’s or Early Years* 

Schedule:

Mon 12 & Tues 13 May: Intensive 1 – Belfast Crescent Arts Centre

May – October: Online Training. One-to-one Mentoring and In community practical delivery of sessions 

Tues 14 & Wed 15 Oct: Intensive 2 – Belfast Crescent Arts Centre

December: Online courses completed & evaluation  

Cost: Level 4 Diploma Training and accreditation will be free for this pilot. Successful applicants will receive travel and accommodation to attend the in-person intensives. *Option to take separate assessments in three-year period at own cost. 

Criteria:

  • You must be NI based or RoI based. 

  • You must be early career dance artist (less than 5 yrs post training) with an undergraduate degree in Dance/Movement. 

  • You must be available to attend both in-person intensives and to deliver sessions in community/education/health settings as part of the training. 

  • You must commit to online study to achieve accreditation. 

  • You must demonstrate a desire to develop and to implement your skills to work with a range of participants (different ages, abilities and in different settings).
