Maiden Voyage are currently in rehearsals for a new work by London based choreographer Sarah Golding. We will be opening up company class led by Sarah and rehearsal director Sandy Cuthbert. Classes are for professional dancers or dance students and will take place in the Helen Lewis studio, Crescent Arts Centre.
Thursday 1st June, Tuesday 6th June, Tuesday 13th June
9.30 – 10.45am
Sarah’s class is high energy and focuses on applying technique to dynamic exercises. There will be high importance given to musicality and fluidity throughout the session.
The class will start with a short improv and series of exercises and phrases that are based on finding mobility in the whole body with a constant focus on rhythm throughout. You will explore how to find dynamism whilst travelling and moving through the floor. The session will end with a punchy yet fluid phrase based on using different levels of tension to move fully and swiftly.
Sarah Golding trained at Trinity Laban and received a BA and MA in dance performance (Transitions Dance Company). Once graduated she became a dancer with Lîla Dance in 2014 where she toured nationally and rurally.
She has performed for theatre companies and choreographers including the Royal Court (The Internet Is Serious Business), Bang Bang Bang group, Darcy Wallace, Quang Kien Van, Cathy Waller, Adam Russell. Sarah has most recently performed in the West End and with the world touring cast of STOMP.
Sarah is co-creator of SAY alongside Yukiko Masui. They have recently completed their second tour of the album and their work Say Something is currently touring nationally and internationally with NDCWales. The duo will be movement directing at The National Theatre this summer for The Effect directed by Jamie Lloyd.
Friday 2nd June, Friday 9th June, Friday 16th June
9.30 – 10.45am
Sandy will teach a release-based class with a somatic sensibility. The class will focus on breath, the use of the weight of bones and muscles and connection to skin offering an opportunity to re-engage with our body and spatial awareness, ourselves and other. Imagery and finding a sense of flow and connection within the space will be a feature of the movement and choreography.
