Belfast Movement Choir finale

Last night we ran our final Maiden Voyage Belfast Movement Choir session.

Our groups from across Belfast have spent this week reflecting on the project after two days of performance for a final dance film, Re-emergence, filmed in Ormeau Park on Sunday 8th May directed by Jennifer Rooney.

Funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and led by Sandy Cuthbert, the Movement Choir is an intergenerational project which focuses on movement for health and wellbeing for women across Belfast.  Despite its name, Movement Choirs are not about singing – they aim to bring groups of people together through dance, in one communal, celebratory, cultural activity.

The project has had to take a few twists and turns, starts and stops due to Covid but throughout, the passion, commitment and camaraderie of all involved has remained constant. Re-emergence will be screened in Belfast in late June.
